About The Artwork

'Undercover' is a textured 12" x 12" acrylic abstract painted on a 1.5" deep gallery wrapped canvas.

I often work intuitively and begin with random mark-making. In this painting I began with bold colourful brushstrokes creating an interesting foundation for my next step. I then painted over the surface with a thick impasto layer of creamy white acrylic. While this layer was still wet I scraped into the wet paint using the sgraffito technique and an assortment of tools.The layer below was now exposed in areas and a variety of expressive impasto shapes emerged to strengthen my composition.
I want the viewer to feel the energy and spontaneity I felt while painting this - and to enjoy the many small details as well as the whole.

This painting, signed on the back, is ready to hang with wire attached.
